History of the Department
           Physics Major was started in the year 1985-86 . Now, the department has grown into a Research Centre under M. S. University with five approved guides. The well qualified and dedicated teaching faculty, is the strength of the department. They strive hard to equip the students with the necessary knowledge and mental skills. The infrastructure and the equipments in the laboratory help to boost up the theoretical knowledge of the students with experimental analysis. They are fortunate enough to study a certificate course in Optical Communication offered by BSNL, Nagercoil, Certificate and Diploma (Add-on) courses in Maintenance of Electrical Equipments is given to students along with their regular curriculum.
• To provide the students scientific knowledge and skills to develop their intellectual powers;
• To identify and cultivate their interests so that they will grow to be responsible citizens.
Empowered by Christ's Love, we the teachers go to second mile in teaching, moulding and equipping our students so that they grow holistically and are prepared to transform individuals and structures.
           • To provide a quality education to prepare students for further study and research in physics and for a wide range of career opportunities.
           • To support teaching and learning with well-equipped laboratory, library and computing facilities.
           • To provide support and guidance that students need, and to encourage them to take up the responsibility for their educational development.
           • Every year our department publishes the magazine 'AGNI'.
           • Along with the association activities, the department conducts Quiz programmes to enrich the knowledge of the students. Every year we conduct National Seminars.
           • February 28th is celebrated as science day every year by conducting "WIPCO" competitions. Students are motivated to participate to write NPG examination conducted by IAPT, Bangalore & do so.
           • Based on the MOU with BSNL, Nagercoil, the III: B.Sc. Physics students are allowed to have the certificate course in optical communication. To enrich the knowledge of students, they go on field trips to ISRO, Mahendragiri, Nehru Palanetorium & Science Exhibition, Trivandrum etc. They actively participate in competitions like 'PHYSCOM', 'EXPOQUEST'-2K series, organised by other colleges. The department secures atleast 4 ranks every year.
